Paula J. Caplan is a playwright,  director,  actor, psychologist, and author of nine books. She wrote CALL ME CRAZY, a full-length comedy/drama which won second place in the Arlene R. and William P. Lewis Playwriting Contest for Women, was a finalist in two other playwriting competitions, and was nominated for Sage Theatre Awardsí Best New Play 1998-99. She also wrote TIKKUN OLAM: REPAIRING THE WORLD, a one-act play that had a staged reading in the Threshold Theater New Plays Festival at the Boston Center for the Arts and a 1998 Off-Off Broadway run at Sage Theatre. A monologue from TIKKUN OLAM appears in Smith and Krausí Best Womenís Stage Monologues of 1998  and was featured in TheaterLab of Houstonís 2000 Womenís Works event in its Fringe Festival.

CALL ME CRAZY had a sold-out, rave-reviewed Off-Off Broadway run at Sage Theatre (529 W. 42nd Street, New York) in early 1999. In March, 1999, a Rhode Island cast directed by Paula performed CALL ME CRAZY in various Rhode Island sites,  funded by a grant from the RI State Council on the Arts. By special request, the Rhode Island cast performed at the national Association for Women in Psychologyís  annual conference. CALL ME CRAZY was the centerpiece of the 1999 New Plays Festival at Bostonís Peabody House Theatre. Paula directed CALL ME CRAZY for Westport Theatre Company.

 Paula directed staged readings of her play, LOVEíS HOLLOW, in New York at Spotlight on Productions @ Raw Space and its first full production in New York at Sage Theatre @ Theatre 22 in 2000. She has directed other work in Providence, and most recently she directed her play, THE TEST, at Sage Theatre @ Tribeca Playhouse.

 Paulaís stage acting roles have included Amalia Freud in the NY production of CALL ME CRAZY; Darcy Snelgrave in ONE FLEA SPARE and Woman in the one-woman LAST EXIT BEFORE TOLL at Perishable Theatre in Providence; Stenographer and Prison Matron in MACHINAL and Miss Fellowes in NIGHT OF THE IGUANA at Peabody House Theatre in Somerville, Mass.; Lillian in I HATE HAMLET for Nantasket Players; Lady Mortimer in HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES at Huron Country Playhouse; the Mother in Toronto Alumnae Theatreís SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR and GETTING OUT; and Bett Bouncer in SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER at Harvardís Loeb Theater. She originated four roles in the premiere of the two-actor play, NATIVE TONGUES at Provincetown Meetinghouse Theatre; Abilene in YOU HAVE TO SERVE SOMEBODY at New Theatre, Inc., in Boston; and numerous other roles in Providence and Toronto.

She has made hundreds of media appearances, including five on Donahue and others on Oprah, CBS Sunday Morning, The Today Show, Geraldo, Sally Jessie Raphael, Hour Magazine, Canada A.M., and CBC Midday.
